Bonhomme is a show built with mud and powered on thoughts.
What makes a good human?
This is the philosophical question we examine in 'Bonhomme' with children aged 5-8, using the Golem myth for loose inspiration.
This new immersive and participatory show seamlessly blends story telling, object theatre, live music and philosophy for children.
Children are natural philosophers and start to question the world around them very early on. What’s Coming out of the Box firmly believes that children theatre should not shy away from big juicy topics. We enjoy asking big questions to small people.
The show was created during a research and development period during which we:
Learnt more about philosophy for children
Practiced practical ethics and clay modelling in schools and community groups.
Took our findings to the rehearsal room to create this hybrid form, devising work with a talented team of performers Cam Griffiths, Estelle Rosenfeld, Louise Mellor and Rachael Hammond.
Developped our uniquely fluid immersive style and our DIY aesthetic.
For this phase of the project we were supported by the following partners:
The Gulbenkian, Canterbury
The Quarterhouse, Folkestone
Looping the Loop, Thanet
Drapers Mill Primary School, Margate
This project was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Thank you for the generous support of The Loveday Family Grassroots Endowed Fund, administered by Kent Community Foundation. We are also very grateful for the financial support of the Gibbons Family Trust.
